During a layoff from Corning, Dick decided to further his education and enrolled at Corning Community College, where he studied drafting. Dick eventually returned as a contractor working at Corning Glass while being employed by the Middough Corp. from Ohio. He worked for them up to the age of 70 before finally retiring. Dick was very active in fraternal organizations, particularly the Addison Eagles Aerie where he served for 10 years as secretary and 5 terms as President. He served as a New York State trustee for one year. He also was a longtime member of the Wellsboro Moose Lodge as well as the Greenwood American Legion Post.
