CANISTEO: Sharlene J. “Moma” Thompson, 85, of Taylor St. passed away peacefully Monday evening June 10, 2024 at the Maple City Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Hornell after an extended illness. She was born at home, November 25, 1938 in the town of Hornellsville to the late Mathew C. and Marie (McDaniel) Pierce. On November 5, 1960, in Canisteo, she married Lyle “Pete” Thompson who predeceased her in November of 1994. Sharlene was a life-long resident of Canisteo and was a former Commissioner of the Steuben County Republican party and for 15 years was an election official for the county board of elections. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and cherished the time spent watching her boys in all of their sporting events and in later years her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. Jig saw puzzles were also a favorite past time. Surviving are five sons and their spouses: Gary “Gus” and Cindy Thompson, Dana and Andrea Thompson, Karl and Kelly Thompson all of Canisteo, Mark and Tonia Thompson of South Mills, NC. and Todd and Colleen Thompson of Springfield, VA. 14 grandchildren, Matt (Terri) Thompson, Jarred Thompson, Carlee (Nate) Linderman, Brandy Thompson, Jesse (Tyler Staloch) Thompson, Wade Thompson, Jace Thompson, Mallory Thompson, Jackie Thompson, Zack (Erica) Thompson, Trevor Thompson, Alisha (Brad) Mullen, Gunnar Thompson and Grant Thompson, 8 great grandchildren, Emalynn, Emette, Stella, Maddox, Hayden, Jeter, Mack and Blair. She is also survived by one brother Clem Pierce and two sisters Deanne Edell and Denise (Michael) Schaumberg all of Canisteo. several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Sharlene was predeceased by a son Dean Thompson, grandson Scott James Thompson, three brothers, Gerald, Duane “Coz” and Richard Pierce, four sisters, Marlene Scott, Marcelene Stewart, Lavonne Campbell and Connie Frook. Friends and family are invited to a time of fellowship and remembrance for Sharlene on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 1-3 pm at the Canisteo Fire Dept. South Main St. Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Sharlene’s name may be made to the Wimodaughsian Free Library, 19 West Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823.
