Obituary of Etta F. Teribury

JASPER: Etta F. Teribury, 56, of Cty. Rte. 71 passed away Thursday (March 7, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident in Canisteo. Etta was born January 20, 1957 in Hornell to Richard and Ethel (Ball) Houghtaling. On October 8, 1994 in Hornell, she married Carl Teribury who survives and resides in Jasper. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Duane Smith in May of 1990. Etta was a graduate of Hornell High School class of 1975. She was a public school bus driver for the Canisteo-Greenwood School District for 5 years and had also driven bus for the Hornell School District for 17 years. Etta was an active member of the Free Methodist Church in Hornell and was very instrumental in starting the Youth Soccer Program in Canisteo. In addition to her husband Carl Teribury of Jasper, Etta is survived by two sons: Joshua (Tristica) Smith of Addison and Travis Smith of Spring Lake, NC. Three step children: Bradley Teribury and Joel (Jessie) Teribury all of Burgaw, NC and Kate (Doug) Shifflett of Pemberton, NJ. 6 grandchildren: Haley and Shelby Shifflett, Lauren and Ryan Teribury and Wyatt and Ryleigh Smith. Etta is also survived by her siblings: Patricia (Jacinto) Rodriguez of Las Vegas, Linda (Roy) Chace and Daisy (Lloyd) Quant all of Arkport, Harvey Houghtaling, Joe (Faye) Houghtaling and Lee (Blanche) Houghtaling all of Hornell, Ella (Rowland) Howard of Canisteo and Mike (Carey) Houghtaling of Arkport, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. Funeral and committal services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Free Methodist Church in Hornell. Burial will be in Whitesville Rural Cemetery, Whitesville, N.Y.
