Please share a memory of Joyce (Lamphier) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
NEW HOLLAND: Joyce (Lamphier) Rauhe, 88, of New Holland, Pa. formerly of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024. Joyce was born in Canisteo, NY on September 18, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Evelyn (Sanford) Lamphier. She was married to James Rauhe for 58 loving years before he passed on July 12, 2018. A 1953 graduate from Addison Central School, she obtained a BS in Elementary Education with a Minor in Library Science from Geneseo State Teacher’s College. Joyce began her career as an elementary teacher in the Webster Central School District in Webster, NY while obtaining her Master’s in Library Science, graduating from Brockport State College. She held the position of Librarian in the Chichester School District in Chichester, PA. Upon retirement she worked many years as a Research Librarian in the Public Library of Media, PA. She was a devout member of the Methodist Church and engaged in many Bible study groups learning in depth teachings of the Bible. She was known for her philanthropic efforts, often donating generously to various charities and causes. She enjoyed reading, walking, birding, live theater, family, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce’s passion for family showed in the many trips from PA to NY to be included in the various family celebrations or gatherings. She and her husband, Jim, loved traveling to the St. Lawrence River every July where two of her sisters and many nieces and nephews met for a reunion. They were responsible for bringing a large cooler filled with sweet corn for the nightly corn roast after the day’s activities were done. They didn’t miss this gathering! It gave everyone a chance to see one another as the nieces and nephews were growing up, adding to their families, and keeping in touch. Surviving are her two sons, David Rauhe of Aston, PA, Douglas Rauhe of Galloway, NJ, two granddaughters, Cassidy (Rauhe) Thomson married to Justin Thomson of Galloway, NJ, and Kali Rauhe of Virgina Beach, VA, great- granddaughter, Mia Thomson, and sister, Sandra (Lamphier) Kelly married to Gerald Kelly of Rochester, NY. Preceding her in death are brothers: Jack and Richard Lamphier; sisters, Annett (Lamphier) Rock and Patricia (Lamphier) Saggese. There will be a Memorial Service on July 1, 2024 at H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St, Canisteo, NY at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo, NY. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
