CANISTEO/HOWARD: James G. "Jim" Ball, 68, of Cty. Rte. 69 passed away Tuesday (March 12, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Jim was born April 1, 1944 in Wellsville, to Robert A. and Marjorie J. (Grover) Ball. On December 16, 1967 in Buena Vista he married Joanne McGill who survives in lives in the town of Howard. He was a graduate of Whitesville Central School class of 1963 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era from 1965-68. Jim was a ground power technician for the former Westinghouse Lighting Co. in Bath, now Philips Lighting, where he worked until the age of 60 retiring in 2004. Some of his past time activities included being a part time commercial pilot and flight instructor for Sterling Airways of Hornell, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and loved to ride motorcycles. Jim was a member of the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church and was at one time very active in many youth activities. He also had volunteered driving for the Bath Volunteer Ambulance. In addition to Joanne, his wife of 45 years, Jim is survived by a daughter Michele (Todd) Young of Rawleigh, NC and a son Bryan Ball (Lori Horton) of Rochester. His grandchildren, Parker and Makenna Ball. Jim is also survived by two brothers, Charles (Margaret) Ball and Robert (Jenny) Ball all of FL. At Jim's request there will be no calling hrs. A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, Cty. Rte. 69 in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to either the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, 6034 Cty.
