Roy D. Crans, 90, formerly of Woodhull, NY passed away peacefully at the Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Roy was born in Bath, NY on January 15, 1934, the son of John Sr. and Eliza (Moss) Crans. He attended school in Little Marsh, PA. On May 14, 1955 he married June A. Watkins at the Woodhull Methodist Church. She survives.
Roy retired from the former Symonds Ford Service in Woodhull, NY as Head Mechanic with 40 years of service from 1959-1999. Previous employments were on the Railroad and Elkland Leather Tannery. He served as a member of the Woodhull Town Board, was a member of the Woodhull Fire Department where he served as Assistant Chief. Roy was a member of the Woodhull Masonic Lodge, Valley 49’ers and Southern Tier Wheelers Square Dance Clubs, and Woodhull Senior Citizens. He was always working on renovating his house and working on small machinery for others. He also drove stock car at Woodhull Raceway.
Roy is survived by his wife of 69 years, June Crans, his children Stephanie Kim (Storm Cilley) of Ogdensburg, NY; Michael Roy (Sherry Hogan) of Corning, NY; and Melanie Sue (David Ward) of Painted Post, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kiera Warner (Eric); Brandon Cilley (Kate); Jenna and Blake Crans; and Ryan and Matt Ward. Great grandchildren Kain, Nolan and Reagan Warner. His brothers William Crans of Woodhull NY and James Crans of Painted Post NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents. His brothers Charles, Harold, Basil, Pete, John Jr. and his sisters Nellie Makitra, Clara Rude, Janice Crans and Alice Ellison.
Per his request there will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the Woodhull Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, August 17th at 2:00pm. A celebration of life will be held at later date.
