Such a beautiful remembrance obituary. Irene was one of my favorite individuals to visit on my return visits to Steuben County and the southern tier. I was a friend to both of her sons while growing up in Greenwood and was always welcomed in the Chaffee home. She will be sorely missed and very fondly remembered by all who encountered her presence. Greenwood has suffered a tremendous loss. She, like many others I knew from growing up there, are etched forever in my heart.
With deepest sympathy,
Beverly (Quinn) Ryan

Growing up in Greenwood I lived in the third house up the street from the Chaffees. This write up of Irene’s life was spot on perfect. Memories of my time growing up were going to the hardware store to pick Mom out a special present with the money I earned. I remember Irene and Lloyds smile every time I came in. I remember Irene helping me find just the perfect gift. I remember a lot about the store and how SPECIAL a place it was for me. I remember the last time I saw Irene and how she smiled….how she treated me like I was the special one. I remember her Mother for years across the street from me running the telephone switchboard. I would crank the phone a couple times…Blanche would answer and I would ask to speak with Aunt Joanne. If Aunt Joanne wasn’t home Blanche would tell me. What an ultra wonderful place to grow up. Irene meant the world to everyone and this write up just couldn’t have been better. I loved her and always will. She was so special. But OHHHHH what a reunion is going on in Heaven. So many that greeted her. And He was soooooo PROUD of her and her life here.

She was always so kind hearted. We would sit there and chit chat for awhile and talk about school and her husband. Always getting on me about not sleeping or going to school. She was always full of laughs and love. And we miss you dearly!! Rest easy beautiful we love you!
