Mary was a determinedly private person, who assiduously avoided allowing photos of herself. Those we have, then, are real treasures.

Mary was an avid reader, a gifted writer, a journalist tenacious for truth. Small stories or big, they were written to the highest standards. No standard set the bar higher for Mary than her own. And the tools of her trade – words – especially words with purpose – say as much about her as any photo.

Mary played an integral part in the well being of Demon Lake and its residents. She was our main source of information regarding history, changes, or announcements. These contributions and her caring manner for people and pets will be missed.

I'm absolutely shocked to hear of Mary's passing. She and I were just conversing on Instant Messenger earlier this month and shared with her news of a mutual friend that had passed. Mary was absolutely a great person and a person of great integrity.
Mary and I became acquainted when she was a newspaper reporter
and I was a criminal investigator and later Police Chief for the Village of Bath. We shared a great relationship professionally which evolved into a personal friendship. I could share sensitive information "off the record" with her and she always honored and respected that. Certainly going to miss bantering with her. RIP Mary.

Mary was always at the Steuben County Legislature meetings and I as a legislator always enjoyed visiting with her. I’m so sorry and she will be sorely missed. Bob Nichols. She also was an excellent news reporter.
