Obituary of Michael H. Duell

Michael H. Duell, 58, of County Route 119, Addison, died suddenly on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Town of Corning. Mike was born in Wellsville, NY on July 31, 1954, the son of Charles and Beatrice McCaslin Duell. He was a 1972 graduate of Addison Central School and BOCES auto body training. On June 29, 1972, Mike was married to LuAnne Main in Elkland, PA. Mike was a very talented machinist and metal fabricator. His first jobs were with Stiker's Auto Sales in Addison and Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Painted Post. He established his own metal fabricating business, Duell Metal Works, which he had operated since. He became associated with Two Rivers Timber in Addison where he designed, built and installed both their saw mill and pellet processing plant. His most recent career segment was as an instructor of welding and fabrication at Corning Community College. He truly loved being able to pass his skills and talents on to others at the college. Mike was a very generous man and often gave of his time and skills to help various organizations and individuals in the area. Above all, Mike was a devoted family man who cherished his wife, daughter and grandson Michael, his namesake. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, LuAnne Duell, daughter, Teresa Duell and partner Randy Long and grandson, Michael Hough, all of Addison, brothers, Chester (Maryette) Duell of Shinglehouse, PA and Walter Duell of Woodhull, sisters, Irene Cavall of Columbia, NC, Charlene (James) Runyan of Elkland, PA and Carlene (Eric) Jones of El Cajon, CA, step brothers, Milton (Mae) Farrand, Greyson (Arlene) Farrand and George (Terri) Farrand, all of Woodhull, step sister, Elaine Mead of Addison, uncles, Chester (Rosanna) McCaslin of Woodhull and Clair (Sandy) McCaslin of Mills River, North Carolina, aunts, Ella Mae Cruz of Guam, Marie Miles of Coudersport, PA, Shirley Cruz of Mills River, North Carolina, Nancy Barnette and Esther Chapman, both of Wellsville, LuAnne's parents, Rodney and Joan Main of Elkland, her sisters, Gail (Jeff) Doan of Osceola, Cindy (Paul) Stermer of Lindley, Linda (Dave) Martin of Elkland and Deb (Kevin) McLean of Osceola, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles Duell on Sept. 13, 1967, his mother, Beatrice Duell Farrand on Feb. 18, 2013, his step father, Grey Farrand in 2004 and his brother in law, Rodney Main. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Addison on Baldwin Avenue. Chris Blackwell and Rev. Morris Gridley Jr. will officiate. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be forwarded to the family at 11287 Cty. Rte. 119, Addison, NY 14801 for the establishment of a scholarship fund at CCC for students studying welding and fabrication.
