Obituary of Margaret Ann Lewis

Please share a memory of Margaret Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
REXVILLE: Margaret Ann Lewis was born on June 17, 1934 in Knoxville, PA to Eloise (Dempsey) and John Cornell. For 66 years, she was happily married to her one true love, Richard K. Lewis. Together, they created a home and raised a family on the family farm in West Union. She was very proud of her children and happiest when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren took the time to visit. She was renowned for her molasses cookies, the best lard pie crust and her macaroni and cheese. To pass time in the winter, she sewed quilts. In the summer, she loved to tend to her flowers. All year long, she took pride in her tidy home. She loved her country music, with Hank Williams and Charlie Pride as her favorites. She enjoyed following her friends and family on Facebook and following events of the world on FOX news. She had a remarkable memory, with an uncanny recollection of genealogy. She was committed to her Catholic faith, having served on the Saint Mary’s Parish Council for many years. She expressed a special devotion to Saint Jude and found comfort in prayer throughout her recent illness. She enjoyed a good cup of coffee at the kitchen table and especially looked forward to weekly visits from her dear friend Punky Ordway. Weekly letters from her niece Cathy Samuel also brightened her day. As her earthly heart grew weary, her focus was on Dick and their heavenly reunion. She believed that their love was not bound to this earth. She will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laughter and selective hearing! She was one of a kind, a true gift from God. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Dick, her siblings John Cornell, Rosemary Hinz, Ed Cornell and Jim Cornell and a granddaughter Rachel Lewis and great-granddaughter Mary Alice McCaig. She is survived by (2) daughters: Marie (Michael) McCaig of Painted Post, NY and Lorraine (Jack) Guarnieri of Pepperell MA. Three sons: Edward (Susan) of Rexville, NY, Richard (Andrea) of Truxton, NY and Douglas (Beth) of Gray, Tenn. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, an older sister Teresa Cox, brother Barney Cornell, beloved younger sister Katherine Parkin and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, September 13th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A mass and Christian burial will take place Saturday, September 14th at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery, Rexville.
