Obituary of Marta Iris Gonzalez

Marta Iris Gonzalez, 60, of Maple St., Addison, passed away in the company of loving family and friends on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA following a brief illness.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 6, 1964, Marta was the daughter of Jesus Manuel and Raida E. (McCoon) Gonzalez. Following the death of her father when Marta was very young, her family moved to Addison and had made their home there since. She was a 1983 graduate of Addison Central School. Following high school, Marta attended the Elmira Business Institute.
Her first job was at the Addison Big M. She eventually became associated with the Corning Children’s Center where she was a caregiver and supervisor for many years. Upon leaving there, she worked for the Addison School District as a bus monitor for 7 years before retiring.
Marta was a member of the Addison Eagles Club Auxiliary since 2009 where she had served as President, Vice President and was currently a trustee. She also belonged to the Addison American Legion Auxiliary, having joined in 2008. Marta was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Addison.
Surviving is Marta’s son, Alejandro Gonzalez of Addison, her sister, Marixa Gonzalez of Addison, her nephew, Anthony Alan Gonzalez, her niece, Lacritia (Ryan) Asad, her great nephews, Anthony Alan Gonzalez II, Angeles Gonzalez and Arriz Gonzalez, her aunt, Sonia McCoon and several cousins.
Marta was preceded in death by her son, Roberto Gonzalez in 1998, her parents, Jesus Manuel Gonzalez in 1966 and her mother, Raida Gonzalez this March and her brother, Jesus Manuel Gonzalez in 2006.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 17 from 6 to 8 pm at the Woodhull Cemetery Chapel, St. Rte. 417, Woodhull, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Addison with burial following in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
A gathering will follow services at the Addison Eagles Club.
