CANISTEO: Thomas L. “Tee Hee” Birdsall, 78, of Purdy Creek Road, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024 at his home following an extended illness. Tom, or “Tee Hee” as he was widely known, was born March 19, 1946 in Hornell to the late Charles and Ione (Goodrich) Birdsall. Tee Hee was a life-long resident of Canisteo where he grew up and graduated from Canisteo Central School in class of 1965. Tee Hee owned and operated Birdsall’s Garage in Canisteo and was an accomplished mechanic specializing in Volkswagon repair and refurbishing. He also would build cars for both on and off-road use. When needed he would work on tractors and fabrication projects. He also had the original location of Purdy Creek Racing, a tradition that is still followed today. After hours, that shop built many race cars that successfully competed on the local dirt racing circuits such as Woodhull, Circle “K” and Blackrock to name a few. A good time was had by all. Tom is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother William H. Birdsall, two sisters Joyce Birdsall and Lois Litteer. There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, NY 14843. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
