Obituary of Marian J. Walrath

Marian J. Walrath, 101, of Smith Road, Jasper, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at St. James Hospital in Hornell. Marian was born in Rathbone, NY on February 23, 1923 to the late Burnett and Alice M. (Wiley) Hibbard. She was a 1940 graduate of Woodhull High School. On October 3, 1943, Marian and Earl E. Walrath were married in Woodhull. Earl preceded her in death on March 9, 2014. Marian and Earl settled on a farm on the Smith Road in Jasper where they raised their large family. Together, the family operated the farm while Earl was employed by the Jasper Central School and Marian was a homemaker and stay at home wife and mother. She was a very talented seamstress and was still handling sewing tasks for friends and neighbors right up until the week of her passing. Marian is survived by her children and spouses, Richard Walrath of Jasper, Larry and Donna Walrath of Centerville, Texas, Elaine Jackson of Allentown, PA, Bruce Walrath of Horseheads and John and Lilibeth Walrath of Fort Worth, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, her sister, Mildred Heckman of Woodhull and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Earl, Marian was predeceased by her son David Walrath, infant son, James Perry Walrath, grandson Brett, great grandson, Jacob, great granddaughter, Selena and brothers, James and Stanley Hibbard. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 2 pm at the Woodhull Cemetery Chapel on the grounds of Woodhull Cemetery. Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
