Obituary of Michael John Dunn

Michael John Dunn, 73, of Morgan Road, Addison, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Bath VA Medical Center. Born in the town of Woodhull on April 8, 1951, Mike was the son of the late Harold J. and Mary R. Myett Dunn. He was a graduate of Addison Central School. Soon after finishing high school, Mike enlisted in the US Navy, serving from 1969 to 1972 including deployment to Vietnam. He worked with his uncle, Ken Hallinan on his farm following his first military hitch. In 1975, Mike re-enlisted in the Navy serving until 1993. Mike was very proud of his military service. He then worked for Southern Tier Express in Andover and later he assisted John and Candy Strauss on their dairy farm in Borden. Mike was a man of few words but was of kind heart and cared deeply for his siblings and nieces and nephews. He was an avid bowler, having participating in several leagues over the years with a collection of awards to back up his skills. He also enjoyed gardening and always had plentiful vegetable gardens to share with friends and family. Surviving are Mike’s siblings, Angevine Dunn of Port Gibson, NY, Patrick (Barb) Dunn of Woodhull, Evelyn Davis of Addison, Norma Wagoner of Wellsville, FL and Peggy Dunn of Painted Post, sister-in-law, Frances Dunn of Addison along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents Harold and Mary Dunn, Mike was predeceased by siblings, Roger Dunn, Raymond Dunn and Donna Wright. Friends may call on Saturday, October 5 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 1 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be follow in Elk Creek Cemetery, Borden. Memorial donations are suggested for the Corning Guthrie Cancer Center.
