Obituary of Carol T. Wilkins

CANISTEO: Carol T. Wilkins, 84, of Burd Ave. passed away Wednesday evening October 9, 2024 at Elderwood at Hornell following an extended illness. Carol was born April 4, 1940 in Rochester to the late John and Elizabeth (Thacher) Etu. On June 19, 1976 in Hornell, she married Larry Wilkins who survives and resides in Canisteo. A life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley, Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her Husband Larry, she is survived by four sons, Rick (Debbie) Mess of Canisteo, Steve (Dawn) Mess of Arkport, Chris (Tonya) Wilkins of Canisteo and Matt (Diane) Wilkins of Warsaw, three daughters, Patty Kent of Canisteo, Liz (Butch) Woodward of Canisteo and Janet (Mike) Pierce of Rochester. Carol is also survived by a brother Peter Etu of Alaska, three sisters, Sally Grieb of Webster, Phyllis Clair of Boston, MA. and Helen (David) Landman of Texas, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by a son Todd Wilkins and grandsons Brent Woodward and Tyler Wilkins. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 pm Tuesday, October 15th, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a funeral service will take place Wednesday, October 16, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the staff and nurses of Elderwood and Care First for the wonderful care and attention they gave Carol and her family during a difficult time. Memorial contributions in Carol’s name may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, NY 14843.
