Obituary of Robert Joseph Allen

Robert Joseph “Joe” Allen, 74, of Rexville, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Joe was born in Hornell on September 8, 1950, the son of Kenneth and Alberta McNeil Allen. He attended Corning West High School. In September 1968, Joe began working for the Corning Glass Works, later Corning Inc., retiring as a kiln operator from the Erwin plant. Joe had many interests and a master of several. He was a great historian and loved to research and share the history of his family. He enjoyed the outdoors and being out in nature. Joe raised cattle and loved his John Deere tractors and Chevy trucks. He enjoyed attending car shows and had possessed many collectable cars over the years. Joe had a great gift of salesmanship and had the ability to make a deal. He purchased houses which he would remodel and resell. Joe eventually made his home at the family homestead in Rexville. Joe is survived by his children, Cathy Jo (Mike) Ream of Knoxville, Bobbie Jo Allen of Patterson, GA and Jason Lynn Allen of Seoul, South Korea, his grandchildren, Alexandria Rodreguez, Jake Matthews, Dylon Kizis and Tanner Kizis, his great grandchildren, Olivia Matthews, Gilbert Matthews, Emily Matthews, Michael Rodreguez and Elliott Boco, his siblings, Mary Lou Smith, Norman Allen and Sheila Skoreski, along with several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Alberta Allen, his former wife and mother of his children, Marcella Allen, his brother, Richard Allen, his sisters, Sharon Plumley and husband Charles and Patty English, his brothers-in-law, Vaughn Smith and Dial Skoreski and his sister-in-law, Eileen Allen. Friends are invited to join the family for Joe’s burial on Thursday, October 24 at 2 pm at St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY.
