DANSVILLE: Mary A. Stewart, 74, of Cty. Rte. 47 passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following an extended illness. Mary was born May 24,1950 in Hornell to Paul and Lucy (DiNardo) Stewart. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1968 and attended Alfred State and SUNY Geneseo earning several degrees in Lab Technology. For several years she was a Lab Technician at Noyes memorial Hospital in Dansville where she was in charge of the infectious control department at the hospital. She was a great lover of animals and especially fond of cats, as she had many, and provided them with a comfortable home. Mary is survived by her mother, Lucy Stewart of Hornell, brothers Paul (Cindy) Stewart of Hornell, Michael Stewart (Vickie Harrison) of Canisteo and William (Terri) Stewart also of Canisteo, one sister Patricia (John) Peisher of Canisteo, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friends Sissy and Dan Mahoney. She was predeceased by her father Paul A. Stewart, an infant brother, Paul F. Stewart and sister-in-law Peggy Stewart. There will be no calling hours or service at this time. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Stewart Family Farm, Ste. Rte. 36 Canisteo, NY. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the Abbe-Freeland Animal Sanctuary, 8104 Terwilliger Road, Angelica, NY 14709. Arrangements are in care of H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
