Obituary of Bruce D. Morseman
Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bruce D. Morseman, 72, of Merring Road, Woodhull, passed away at home on Monday, November 11, 2024. Bruce was born on July 4, 1952 in Corning to the late Earl E. Morseman Jr. and Caroline Padgett Morseman. Raised in Tuscarora, he was a 1970 graduate of Addison Central School.
Bruce enlisted in the US Army in 1972 and while on a weekend leave after completing basic training, he married the former Sharon Chapin at the Woodhull Baptist Church parsonage. Bruce was a career soldier, serving in several locations both in the US and overseas as a construction and demolitions expert. He was proud of his service, never complaining about the many sacrifices he made until his retirement in 1992. The only thing more important to Bruce than his country was his family, and after retirement he returned to Virginia where his family waited for him.
In 1994, Bruce and Sharon, their children grown, wanted to be near family and returned to New York, settling in Woodhull. Bruce worked as a building contractor for several years after leaving the Army. Following a tragic accident with his cousin, Bruce was inspired to become trained in Emergency Medicine. He became an EMT and volunteered with the Tuscarora Ambulance Corp. for several years. In addition in 2005 he joined the Woodhull Fire Department where he continued as an EMT but also became trained in firefighting and remained very involved until his recent failing health prevented him from active service.
In addition to serving, Bruce always enjoyed attending auctions, particularly spending Thursday evenings with friends at the Addison Auction House.
Bruce enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, loved 4 wheeling and being one to never sit still; he was always occupied with numerous activities. He always looked forward to his annual 4th of July birthday parties which always included a fireworks show.
Bruce is survived by Sharon Morseman, his wife of 52 years of Woodhull, his son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Donna Morseman of Spencer, NY, his daughter and son-in-law, Kara and Les Hubbard of Central Square, NY. his grandchildren, Emma Morseman, Briana Nielsen, Brett Nielsen and Kyra Nielsen, his great grandson, Wyatt Nielsen, his siblings, Susan Bulkley of Addison, Franklin (Lucille) Morseman of Ulysses, PA, Roger Morseman of Hanson, KY, Dennis Morseman of Addison, Douglas Morseman of Addison, James “JD” Morseman of Addison, Timothy (Colleen) Morseman of Mifflinburg, PA and John Scharett of Hendersonville, NC, his step sister, Sue Dunn of Addison and many nieces and nephews.
