Obituary of Jane E. Hamilton

Jane E. Hamilton, 85, of Bath, formerly of Rathbone, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Corning Hospital. Jane was born in Williamsport, PA on November 4, 1939 to the late James and Jane Zerby Cartwright. She attended Williamsport area schools but left prior to graduation. At the age of 36, Jane earned her GED, an achievement which she took great pride in. Jane married Paul E. Hamilton on February 19, 1955 in Williamsport. They made their home together in Rathbone. Paul preceded her in death on October 4, 2010. Jane was a longtime employee of Philips Lighting in Bath, retiring in 2001. She cared for her husband Paul at home until his passing. Jane was a very active member of the Rathbone United Methodist Church. Surviving are her children, Paulette Peterson of Savona, Elizabeth Prutsman of Bath, Paul (Lena) Hamilton Jr. of Oregon, James Hamilton of Addison, Phillip Hamilton of Jasper and John (Lori) Hamilton of Addison, grandchildren, Anthony Hamilton, Garrett Hamilton, Mitchel Hamilton, Amy (Michael) Gerhart, Derrick Hamilton and Jessica Hamilton, great grandchildren, Collin Hamilton, Lillie Hamilton, Leia Hamilton, Oliver Gerhart and Madison Gerhart, her brother, Charles Cartwright of Trout Run, PA and her extended family of Peterson’s of Savona. Besides her husband Paul, Jane was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Jane E. Smith on June 6, 2023, her daughter-in-law, Lori (Waight) Hamilton, her son-in-law, David Peterson and her brother, Joey Cartwright. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6 at 11 am at the Rathbone United Methodist Church with Pastor Mort Gridley officiating. Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested for the Rathbone United Methodist Church. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
