Patricia M. Mather, 71, a resident of Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post and formerly of Addison, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at Corning Hospital.
Patty was born in Van Nuys, California on August 1, 1953, the daughter of Kenneth R. and Mary T. (Works) Wormley. Raised in California, she finished high school there.
In 1972, she and her family returned to the Addison area which had been her father’s home in the past. She married Dwight Mather and they made their home in Tuscarora.
Patty had been employed as a rural mail carrier for over 20 years, delivering from the Addison office. A true animal lover, Patty always surrounded herself with animals of all kinds. She enjoyed riding the many horses she had owned over the years, often competing in barrel riding competitions. She operated a dog kennel from her home which she called Chow Down Kennel. From her kennel she developed a love for Chow dogs which she raised, bred and entered competitions throughout the United States and Canada. Several international champions were produced from her kennel. Patty was recognized in various National Dog Magazines for her successes in raising and showing her Chow dogs.
A music lover, Patty played several musical instruments, including the organ and accordion. She was a loyal fan of Elvis Presley. She also admired John Wayne and loved to read Steven King horror novels. She was a very generous and giving lady.
Surviving is her husband, Dwight Mather, her son and daughter-in-law, Garret and Kristie Mather of Addison and grandson, Nicholas (Braelea) Solinas.
Following Patty’s wishes, there will be no public services. She will be laid to rest next to her father in Rathbone Cemetery.
The family is being assisted by the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY.
