Obituary of Lloyd D. Young

CANISTEO: Lloyd D. Young, Sr., 87, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, Jan. 13, 2025 at his home due to a history of chronic health concerns. Lloyd was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo Valley where he was a plumber servicing the area for several years. He was employed at the former Canisteo Furniture and Appliance Store on Main St. and eventually worked with Marty Hulbert under Marty’s Repair of Canisteo. Lloyd was born June 17, 1937 in the town of Greenwood (Rough & Ready Road) to the late Homer and Evalyn (Williams) Young. On February 2, 1957 at the Park Methodist Church in Hornell, he married the former Virginia Osborne who survives and resides in Canisteo. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Virginia Young of Canisteo, he is survived by three sons, David (Sally) Young of NC, Mark Young also of NC and Lloyd D. (Diane) Young, Jr. of Almond, and 9 wonderful grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Leroy, Robert, Leon and William Young and two sisters, Bertha O’Brien and Helen Young. Per Lloyd’s request there will be no calling hours or service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date this summer. Memorial contributions in Lloyd’s name may be made to the Canisteo Fire or Ambulance Dept. 14 South Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
