HORNELL: Bruce W. Carrier, 59, of Allen St. passed away Thursday (May 2, 2013) at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness. Bruce was born March 17, 1954 in Elmira the son of William and Doris (Robbins) Carrier. On March 27, 1976 in Nantucket, Mass. he married Melody Munk who survives and resides in Hornell. Bruce was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1972. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972 and served his country honorably as a Seabee and steel worker until 1981. Bruce had been employed at the former Morissen/Knudsen of Hornell for 14 years as a fabricator and had recently been employed at the ARC in Bath. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing when he could and also enjoyed the pleasures of gardening. Bruce enjoyed NASCAR racing and favored the racing team of Jeff Gordon, he was also an enormous fan of the Miami Dolphins football team. He also loved to shoot pool and throw darts with the company of his family and friends. His greatest pleasure was his family, being a loving husband, caring father and a grandfather who adored his grandchildren. Bruce is survived by his wife of 37 years Melody Carrier of Hornell, his daughter: Jennifer (James) Spires of Huntsville, AL. a son: William (Misty) Carrier of Hornell, grandchildren, Logan, Ronny, Elizabeth and Alexander Spires, Ian, Kurt, Kennedy and Amy Carrier. He is also survived by a brother Lee "Spider" Carrier of Hornell and a sister Rebecca (Steve) Dennis of Jasper, nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his parents and a sister Betty Pensyl. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a memorial service with military honors will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd. Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL. 32256.
