Obituary of Raymond G. Ball

Raymond G. "Shorty" Ball of Hardscrabble Road, Addison, entered into rest on Thursday, May 30 at home following an extended illness. Shorty was born in Corning on December 17, 1941, the son of Herman and Grace Osgood Ball. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam era from 1961 to 1964. On March 20, 1965, he and the former Sharon E. Austin were married in Lindley, NY. She survives. Shorty retired from the Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Painted Post after 23 years active service where he worked as a core up man. He had enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and camping with his family. Shorty adored his grandchildren and cherished his time spent with them. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Sharon Ball at home, his sons and their wives, Timothy and Robin Ball of Bath and Raymond and Desireah Ball of Lindley, his grandchildren, Cameron, Gabrielle, Brookelynn, Ethan, Trinity, Kiara and Brielle, his sisters, Beulah Bates of Painted Post and Evelyn (Surrogate) Dibble of Woodhull along with many nieces and nephews. Shorty was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Herman, William and Franklin and his sisters, Bessie, Ellen, June, Norma, Anna Mae and Shirley. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1 from 5-7 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 7 PM with Rev. Sandra Olmstead officiating. The family suggests that any memorial donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses. Service: Saturday, June 1, 2013 7:00 PM H.P. Smith & Son Inc.
