Obituary of Betty J. Tucker

CANISTEO: Betty J. Tucker, 90, of Russell St. passed away Tuesday (July 2, 2013) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. following a brief illness. Betty was born October 8, 1922, in Canisteo, to Leonard W. and Inez L. Roberts. On October 14, 1944, in Camp Chaffee, AR, she married William F. "Bill" Tucker who survives and resides in Canisteo. She was predeceased by two brothers: William Van Allen and Leonard Van Allen, Jr. Betty was a lifelong resident of Canisteo and was a graduate of C.C.S class of 1941. She served two years in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Surgical Technician from 1943 to 1945. Returning home she dedicated herself as a homemaker, wife and mother taking care of her husband and raising three children. She was a member and past Matron of the Canisteo O.E.S. and a R.S.V.P. volunteer. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo where she was a member of the Stephens/Gray Class and Altar Guild. In addition to her husband of 68 years William F. "Bill" Tucker of Canisteo, Betty is survived by two daughters: Sandra (Warren) Pierce of Canisteo, Marsha (Randy) Jackson of South Hornell, and one son William K. (Fran) Tucker of Canisteo. She is also survived by 7 grand children, 13 great grand children, one great, great grandson, nieces and nephews. There will be no public calling hours. A private viewing and funeral service will be at the convenience of the family at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Betty Tucker's name may be made to either: the First United Methodist Church, Greenwood St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 or to Steuben Rural Ministries, West Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 Service: Private Family Service H.P.
