Obituary of Dorothy Irene McCaig

HOWARD: Dorothy Irene McCaig, 88, of Dublin Rd. passed away peacefully at the home of her dear friends Scott and Louise Kolz following an extended illness. Dorothy was born January 10, 1925 in Corning to Gordon G. and Iva M. (Dailey) Jessup. On January 13, 1943, in Dansville, she married Francis Richard McCaig who predeceased her in March of 1996. She was also predeceased by a son Richard G. McCaig in 1990 and a daughter Belinda Sue Burnett in 2012. Dorothy lived in the town of Howard since 1961 where she had been a clerk for the former D.L. Fisher Grocery Store in Canisteo and had also been a book keeper for the Town of Howard for 19 1/2 years. After retiring she worked for ProAction. She was a member of the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church. Dorothy enjoyed her beloved collie Timmie, and loved to share her knowledge of gardening by giving out clippings and roots. Cuttings from her plants made their way to the gardens of many friends. The Kolzs most enjoyed story time with Dorothy over her morning coffee - with just a little cream. Dorothy would often say that God had met her needs and trusted Jesus Christ to save her. Survivors include: a son Donald McCaig of Canisteo, two daughters: Bonnie (Edwin) Salvagin of IN and Candace McCaig (Richard) Costley of Hornell, son-in-law David Burnett of AR, brother, Gordon Jessup of Thurston, granddaughters Rebecca VanFleet, Bobbi Jo Singleton, Edwin, Ricky, and Tina Salvagin, and special great grandson James R. Tompkins along with several other great grandchildren At Dorothy's request there will be no calling hours, a memorial service will take place Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Howard Cemetery, Howard, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Dorothy McCaig's name may be made to the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, 6034 Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
