CANISTEO: Flora Jean Baker, 80, formerly of Ste. Rte. 36 passed away Saturday (August 24, 2013) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell where she had resided since July of 2012. Jean was born June 7, 1933, in Canisteo to Charles A. and Florence Irene (Feenaughty) Baker. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1951 and worked for 36 years in book keeping and deposit operations for Steuben Trust Company in Hornell retiring in 1995. After retiring Jean gave of herself in volunteering her time working at Hornell Gardens Nursing Home and the Hornell Senior Citizens. Jean was very fond of her many nieces and nephews and will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was also an avid animal lover who enjoyed the company of her many pets. Jean is survived by her twin sister: Frances June (Gerald) Knight of Canisteo, sister, Jane (Thomas) Lioy of Rochester, a brother James (Elaine) Baker of Canisteo and a sister-in-law Elaine Baker of N.C., 12 nieces and nephews, numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews and several cousins. Jean was predeceased by her parents and a brother Walter Baker. There will be no prior calling hrs. a memorial service will take place Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Greenwood St. in Canisteo. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hornell Humane Society, P.O. Box 533 Hornell, N.Y. or to the Canisteo Ambulance Fund, c/o Sandy Pierce, 35 Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
