GREENWOOD: Theresa M. (Meehan) Moore, age 59 of Greenwood, NY entered into eternal rest at her home on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Theresa was born on March 5, 1954 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell to Francis and Virginia (Greene) Meehan. Theresa is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Thomas Moore whom she married on July 18, 1981 at St. Mary's Church in Rexville. Their ceremony was unique in that it was the only wedding performed in the church's lawn following the fire that destroyed St. Mary's just a few months prior. Theresa is also survived by her two children: Jonathan (Moriah) Moore of Greenwood, Amber (Kevin) Hoyt of Caledonia; her two grandchildren Damien and Kaydinse Moore also of Greenwood. She also leaves behind members of the Meehan clan which includes her mother, Virginia Meehan of Rexville, three brothers: William (Nancy) Meehan, Donald (Amy) Meehan all of Rexville, Larry (Brenda) Meehan of Georgetown, Fl; two sisters Barbara O'Brien of Greenwood, Marlene (Dan) Duguid of Williamsburg, MI; sister-in-law Jolene Meehan of Hornell, paternal aunts Evelyn Voorhees of Wellsville, Dorothy Meehan of Hornell, maternal aunt Pat Bennett of Wellsville; 21 nieces and nephews, 31 great-nieces and nephews, several cousins. Theresa's surviving Moore family includes four brothers-in-law Glenn (Cindy) Moore of North Rose, NY, Robert Moore of Addison, Gary (Carol) Clark of Almond, Val Fenti of Canandaigua, sisters-in-law Jody (Terry) Carpenter of Houston, TX, Elaine Baker of Marion, SC, two step-daughters Sheila Marlatt and Diane Stratton, including five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, several cousins. Theresa is predeceased by her father Francis in 2011 and brother Ron in 2009, brothers-in-law Richard Moore, William Moore, two sisters-in-law Kay Fenti and Betty Moore. Theresa was a graduate of Greenwood Central School in 1972. She also was a graduate of Corning Community College attaining an Associate's Degree in Physical Education in 1974. Following her graduation from Corning Community College, Theresa was employed by Westinghouse, working there for three years. Theresa then pursued a career as a full-time day care provider for over ten years which she enjoyed immensely. She then was employed by Certified Traffic Controllers in Andover for over 20 years. Theresa was a lifelong communicant at St. Mary's Church in Rexville. Theresa's passing will be felt in the hearts of family and a multitude of friends in the surrounding communities of Greenwood, Rexville, and Whitesville. She was an avid sports enthusiast throughout her life as both a participant and spectator. Her presence was noted and felt throughout Steuben and Allegany counties' sports arenas following not only her siblings' sports activities but her son's and daughter's, and her nieces and nephews high-school and college activities. Theresa also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Theresa gave her whole being in everything she endeavored within her family and community. She will be remembered for her lust for life, her love of family, and her faith and commitment to her surrounding communities, participating in numerous activities. She was a member of the Greenwood Sports Booster Club for many years, and most recently became a member of the Greenwood Fire and Ambulance Department which she was extremely proud of. Theresa helped and many times was a major organizer for fund raising benefits for fellow cancer victims. In her younger years was a member of the Allegany/Steuben Holstein Association showing cattle for her parents' farm, "Frangin Farms" in many local, county and state functions. She was a past member of Steuben County 4-H club. In 2012, along with her husband Tom, were honored as recipients of Greenwood's Citizens of the Year, an honor she held dear to her heart. Theresa touched the lives of many and to have been called a friend by her was indeed a blessing. She will also be remembered for her infectious laughter, her amazing smile, her true Irish spirit, her unending selflessness and generosity to others, and tremendous love of family. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday and from 1-3 and 6-8 PM Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where evening prayers will take place at 8 PM. A mass will take place Saturday at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Theresa's name may be made to the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department c/o Melissa Waters P.O.
