Obituary of James W. Richeson

CANISTEO: James W. "Jim" Richeson, 83, of Eighth St. passed away Monday (Oct. 7, 2013) at Wellsville Manor where he had been a patient since September 2013. Jim was born December 22, 1929 in Mt. Morris, to Harold E. and Alice (Jones) Richeson. On January 12, 1951 in Nunda, N.Y. he married Elizabeth J. Henry who predeceased him in April of 2000. He was also predeceased by a brother, George Richeson, three sisters: Mary Talbot, Helen VanDerveer and Clara Drake. Jim was a graduate of Nunda High School class of 1948 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne serving from 1951-56. On returning home he worked at the former Westinghouse Co. in Bath for a number of years and furthered his employment at the former Foster Wheeler Mfg. Company in Dansville retiring in 1986. After retirement he was a bus driver for the Canisteo Central School District until 1997. Jim was a 59 year member in good standing and past Master of Morning Star Lodge #65 F & AM where he was honored in receiving the Masonic Dedicated Service Award in 2000. Jim was also very talented in repairing automotive car and small engines within the Canisteo area. Survivors include two daughters: Karen (David) Gumport of Greenville and Roxanne Richeson of Albany and one son, Lee Richeson of Canisteo. Jim is also survived by a brother Harold (Helen) Richeson of Gillian, Ohio and a sister Alice "Kitty" Knittel of Rochester, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a Masonic service will take place at 8:45 PM Thursday evening. A memorial service will take place Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
