Margaret E. Grant, 79, of Washington St. Woodhull, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira following an extended illness. Maggie was born in Addison on March 9, 1932, the daughter of Mary Smith. She was soon given for adoption to Richard and Katie Elwood Travis who raised her from the time of being an infant. She was a 1949 graduate of Addison High School. On August 23, 1950, she and Edward Dale Grant were married in the Woodhull Baptist Church. Dale preceded her in death on January 20, 2007. Maggie had various jobs as an adult beginning with 2 years employment at Newberry's in Corning, then 2 years at Marion Rohr's in Hornell when she went to work at the former A&P Food Plant in Horseheads for 17 years until it's closing and finally drove school bus for Pro Action Headstart for 9 years, retiring in 1995. She also was a weekly employee at the Woodhull Raceway for over 40 years, acting as the pit gate ticket taker. A longtime member of the Woodhull Baptist Church, Maggie also was a member of the former Woodhull Rebekah Lodge, the Addison Eagles Aerie 3904, a past member of the Woodhull Ambulance Corp and was a member of Woodhull Community Friends Senior Citizen Group. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Grant of Woodhull and Cherlyn "Dunior" Rutski of North Hornell, her sons and daughters in law, Brian and Ronda Grant of Cameron Mills and Scott and Amy Grant of Woodhull, her grandchildren, Brian Grant Jr., Allison Grant and Aaron Grant, her great grandson, Zachary Grant, her brother, David (Penny) Russell of Odessa, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Dale, Maggie was predeceased by her son in law, Walt Rutski, her sisters, Ruth Woughter, Betty Louey, Dorothy Maricle and Joyce Dann and her brother, Duane Russell. There will be no calling hours. Maggie's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 1:00 PM in the Woodhull Cemetery Chapel. Rev. Gary McCaslin will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodhull Ambulance Association.
