Obituary of Alberta Preston Woodworth

Hornell, NY | Alberta Preston Woodworth, 91, of Upper Glen Ave. Hornell, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. Alberta was born in Jasper on September 14, 1922, the daughter of Kress A. and Edith D. Drake Simpson. She was a 1941 graduate of Jasper Central School. On November 15, 1942 she and Gerald Preston were married. Gerald preceded her in death on March 14, 1972. She later married Corbett Woodworth on December 6, 1974 and he died in January of 1987. Also predeceasing her was her sister, Jenette Foster. A homemaker most of her life, Alberta had worked when younger at Newberry's in Corning. She had also worked for several years in the concession stand at Woodhull Raceway. She was a member of the former Woodhull Grange and the First Baptist Church of Woodhull. Alberta was an avid reader and was a very talented writer and loved music. She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Jean and Duane Smith of Mt. Holly Springs, PA, Cheryl and Dean Sawyer of Troy, PA and Brenda and Russ Hurlburt of Hornell, 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, her brother in law, Grant Foster of Jasper and several step children and nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, October 31 from 2-4 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Alberta's funeral services will be held there on Friday at 1 PM with Trevor Price officiating. Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery.
