Obituary of David J. Boyer

Addison, NY | David J. Boyer, 78, of St. Rte. 417, Addison, passed away at Corning Hospital on Saturday evening, November 2, 2013. Dave was born on September 20, 1935 in Eldred, Pa., the son of Bertie and Cecelia Obliski Boyer. He was a graduate of Roulette, Pa High School. Following high school, Dave entered the US Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1956. On August 10, 1957, he and the former Ruth M. Redmond were married in Sartwell Creek, Pa. They moved to the Addison area when Dave began a six year employment with the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post. He then worked as a bus mechanic for six years for the Addison Central School Transportation Department. In 1973, he and Ruth formed Boyer's Sheet Metal in Addison, a business which he still operated. Dave was a charter member and past Secretary of eight years of the Addison Eagles Aerie 3904. He was a long time Mason and was Past Master and former Secretary of Addison Union Lodge 118 F&AM as well as a member of the Tuscarora-Woodhull Chapter 273 Order of the Eastern Star in Addison. An avid country music fan and lifelong musician, Dave also loved outdoor activities, being a member of the NRA and the Addison Fish & Game Club. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Boyer of Addison, his sons and daughters in law, Roger Boyer and Sue Stamp of Addison, Donald and Kathi Boyer of Greensboro, NC, Steven Boyer and Carol Smith of Painted Post and Shawn and Rose Boyer of Beaver Dams, his grandchildren, Curtis Boyer, Cara Boyer, Craig Boyer, Andy Stamp, Justin Stamp, Mary Allison Boyer, Kenneth Boyer, Katie Boyer, Laura Smith, Nicholas Boyer, Tyrah Pollack and Jessie Mattison, his sister, Mary (Neil) Baker of Tioga, Pa., his brothers, Vernon (Viola) Boyer of Slidell, La. and Robert (Charlene) Boyer of Austin, Tx, his sisters in law, Doris Boyer of Addison, Florence (James) Joseph of Olean, NY and Judy (Ronald) Dates of Roulette, Pa., his brothers in law, Fred (Shirley) Redmond of Burtville, Pa. and Philip (Gloria) Redmond of Roulette, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Boyer and Bert Boyer. Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 PM and again from 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A Masonic memorial service will be held on Wednesday evening at 6:45. Dave's funeral services will follow visitation on Thursday at 1 PM with Rev.
