Obituary of Cindy L. Crosby

CANISTEO: Cindy L. Crosby, 53, of Cty. Rte. 119 (Adrian), passed away peacefully Wednesday (Nov. 20, 2013) surrounded by her family at Arnot/Ogden Hospital in Elmira following a brief illness. Cindy was born October 24, 1960 in North Hornell to Robert L. and Velma M. (Greenfield) Sherman. On July 3, 1990 in the town of Canisteo, she married David Crosby who survives and resides in Canisteo. She was predeceased by her father, a brother Robert Sherman and sister Betty Sherman. She was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School class of 1979 and for a short period of time she had attended Alfred State College. Cindy was employed as a social examiner for Steuben County Dept. of Social Services before being stricken ill. She loved to cook and always enjoyed new recipes that she could try and share with her family and friends. Cindy will be remembered for the love and time spent with her family especially her grand children. In addition to her husband David Crosby of Canisteo, Cindy is survived by two step-sons: Robert D. Crosby (Jeanna Beaver) of Belle Haven and Scott L. Crosby of Canisteo and two wonderful granddaughters Lilly and Ella Crosby. She is also survived by her mother Velma Sherman of Canisteo, two brothers: Leon Sherman and Michael (Teeka) Sherman all of Almond, three sisters: Roberta Sutton of S.C., MaryLou (Richard) Kienzle of Pa. and Shirley Sherman of Canisteo, a sister-in-law Hazel Sherman of Owego and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Dygert officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Cindy's name may be made to the Canisteo Vol. Ambulance Fund, c/o Sandy Pierce, 35 Main St. Canisteo N.Y. 14823.
