Obituary of Jerry R. Aldrich

Jerry R. Aldrich, 74, of County Route 119, Addison (Town of Rathbone), passed away at home on Friday, November 29, 2013 following a long illness. Jerry was born in Woodhull on May 7, 1939, a son of Richard and Carrie (Moyer) Aldrich. On February 14, 1961, he and the former Carolyn Hendrickson were married in Jasper. Jerry was a long time employee of the Town of Rathbone Highway Department, beginning his career there in 1970 and retiring in 2004 as Superintendent of Highways. For 27 years he also acted as the Dog Control Officer for the Town of Rathbone. He was an avid all around hunter but his greatest love in hunting was coon hunting and coyote hunting. Jerry was a life member of the Steuben County Coon Hunters Assoc. the Southern Tier Coyote Hunters and the NRA. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Fox Hunters. Jerry enjoyed go cart racing as a sponsor and advocate at Rathbone Raceway and Lightning Raceway. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Terry Aldrich on July 28, 1985, his daughter, Sherry Aldrich on Aug. 17, 1985, his brothers, Lester and Oscar Aldrich and his sisters, Harriett Newell and Carolyn Button. Surviving is his wife of over 52 years, Carolyn Aldrich at home, his children and spouses, Jerry and Cindy Aldrich Jr. of Addison, Mary & Bob Revis of Addison, Lori and Paul Lewis of Addison and Christopher Aldrich (Nicole Sullivan) of Bath, his grandchildren, Derrick Aldrich, Amanda Aldrich, Stephanie Conklin, Brittany Revis and Roy Lewis, his great grandsons, Wyatte Conklin and Aiden Sullivan, his siblings, Emma Schoonover of Bradford, Pa., Augustus (Rose) Aldrich of Jasper, Winifred Sansom of Orlando, FL. and Doris Stocum of Jasper, his sisters in law, Sharon Aldrich of Florida and Dorothy Streeter of Greenwood, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Jerry's funeral will be conducted there on Wednesday at 11 AM with Rev. Morris Gridley Jr. officiating. Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery.
