HORNELL: Melvin R. Hendershot, Jr., 76, of Terry St. passed away Saturday (Dec. 7, 2013) at his home following a lengthy illness. Melvin was born September 13, 1937 in Port Jervis to Melvin R. and Graycie Jean (Jochem) Hendershot. He was a graduate of Corning East high school class of 1956 and had worked as a self-employed wood worker for many years. Melvin is survived by dear friend and companion Dorcie Harvey of Hornell, one son Kirk (Shelly) Hendershot of Andover, 6 step-children, 5 step-grandchildren, a grandson Jacob Hendershot of Perkinsville and one brother Gerald (Anne) Hendershot of Rochester. Melvin was predeceased by his parents, a daughter Deborah Hendershot and a brother Donald Hendershot. At Melvin's request there will be no public calling hrs. or service. A private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
