Obituary of Thomas Williams

Thomas Williams, 85, of Dry Run Road, Painted Post, formerly of Dansville, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Bath VA Medical Center. Tom was born in Corning on November 28, 1928, the son of John and Bertha (Todd) Williams. He attended Corning schools and was a graduate of Northside High School. An Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict, Tom served his country from 1948 to 1951. He began his long employment with Corning Inc. from where he retired after more than 35 years of active service. He had worked as an engineer in Research and Development at Sullivan Park. During this time he earned a degree from Corning Community College. Following his retirement, Tom worked as a security guard for Foster Wheeler in Dansville. While in the military, Tom and the former Blanche VanZile were married in Washington. Blanche preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2000. As a younger man, Tom enjoyed building homes, which he would sell upon completion. He was a great history and technology buff as well as a lover of nature and photography. He adored his pets and always took pride in his gardening work. Surviving Tom are his daughters and sons in law, Charlene and David Wentworth of Sparta, NY and Ruth and John Calhoun of Painted Post, his son, Stephen Williams of Cuba, NY, grandchildren, David Thomas Wentworth, Stephen Jay Williams, Christopher Williams and John Healy, his great grandchildren, Rhianna and Colton Wentworth, his sisters in law, Mertie (Truman) Breon of Corning and Marion Dilly of Wellsboro, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday, January 13 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM with Rev. Lonny DeWalt officiating. Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorials are requested for the American Cancer Society.
