Troupsburg, NY | Wilfred G. White, 84, of Gunn Road, Greenwood, NY (Town of Troupsburg), passed away at home very suddenly on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Wilfred was born on September 24, 1929, the son of the late Joseph and Maude Reimann White on the family farm in Troupsburg where he spent his entire life. He was a 1947 graduate of Troupsburg Central School. On December 20, 1952, he and the former Anna L. VanOrsdale were married in the United Methodist Church of Troupsburg. Wilfred was a lifelong dairy farmer. Besides farming, Wilfred was a longtime distributer of Royster fertilizer and Pioneer seeds. He also had a Snow Jet snowmobile dealership during the 1970's and raised heifers for resale. Wilfred and Anna were lifelong members of the United Methodist Church of Troupsburg where he was always very involved with any building improvements and maintenance. He was a great outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and spending time with his dogs. Wilfred was involved in playing league softball from 1977 to 1989. At one time, he was a door to door census taker for the Town of Troupsburg. Wilfred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna White at home, his son and daughter in law, Gary & Michelle White of Troupsburg, his grandchildren, Jane (Will) hall of Whitesville and William White of Troupsburg, his great grandchildren, Vanessa, Gage and Laura Hall, his sister, Charlotte Kernahan of Mt. Morris, his sisters in law, Beverly (Clair) Lewis of Jasper and Beverly White of Maryland, his brother in law, Jonas (Nancy) VanOrsdale of Elkland, Pa. along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis White, his sister, Josephine Lewis, his sister in law, Marjorie White and his brother in law, Lawrence Lewis Jr. It was Wilfred's wishes that there be no calling hours. His funeral service will be conducted at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY privately at the convenience of the family with Rev. Terry Kelly and Mr. Clair Lewis officiating. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Troupsburg, the Troupsburg Fire Department or a charity of one's choice.
