Woodhull | Gordon L. "Louie" English Jr., 64, of Durkin Hill Road, Woodhull, passed away very suddenly on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Corning Hospital after being stricken at home. Louie was born in Woodhull on January 13, 1950, the son of the late Gordon L. and Esther Symonds English. He attended school in Woodhull where he was a 1968 graduate of Woodhull High School. As a young man, Louie was employed for 10 years at Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post, was a truck driver for Keith Paddock and Son in Jasper and also for LeBarron's Salvage in Troupsburg. He spent a bulk of his life as a laborer for Laborer's International Union of North America working in bridge and road construction. Many of those years were spent with LC Whitford Co. of Wellsville. Louie loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and trout fisherman. He also enjoyed riding 4 wheelers in the hills around his property. He was a member of the Elkland Moose Lodge. On July 1, 1997, he and the former Darleen M. Grist were married in Woodhull. Besides his wife Darleen at home, Louie is survived by his children, Lori (Daniel) Learn of Woodhull, Robert (Donna) English of Painted Post, Bonnie (James) Cronk of Woodhull and John English of Hornell, his step sons, Randy Carl (Leann Dent) of Cowanesque, Pa. and Jason Carl (Jodi Mayo) of Addison, 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his sisters, Marguerite (Floyd) Taft of Woodhull, Patricia Patterson of Woodhull and Mary Jane (Butch) Williams of Cameron Mills, his brother, Kenneth W. (Mabel) English of Woodhull, his aunts, Kate Towsley of Fairport, NY and Flora Broderick of Wellsboro, Pa. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Louie was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Thomas English, his brother in law, Rodney Patterson and his nephews, Billy English and Tommy Patterson. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 3 from 12 Noon to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery.
