Obituary of Anna May Walrath

Anna May Walrath, 87, of Jasper, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 11 at the home of her daughter, Marge, in Rexville. Born in Rathbone, NY on February 10, 1924, Anna May was the daughter of Arthur and Cassie Allen Draper. She was a graduate of the Addison High School. Anna May married Glen N. Williams in August 1945. He died on January 28, 1958. On May 16, 1959, she & Russell S. Walrath were married. Russell died on March 2, 1984. Also preceding her in death was her brother, David Draper. Anna May was a homemaker and babysitter at various times for over 100 children in the community. She was also a lifelong foster mother, providing a foster home for 30 children over the years. She had attended functions with the Jasper Senior Citizens group. She was a fixture in the Jasper community that will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law, Robert & Patty Williams and Keith Harrington, all of Jasper, her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie & Douglas VanHoven of Rexville, her grandchildren, Hank (Val) Williams, Bonita (Jeff) Hawkins, Janene (Michael) Cady, Michael (Wendy) Bartholomew, Jason (Yolanda) Williams, Stephen Bartholomew (Amanda McCaig), Shawnon Bartholomew, Lee (Beth) VanHoven and Scott (Shannon) VanHoven, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, her sister, Betty Miller of Lancaster, PA and several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, from 6-9pm, and again on Saturday from 1-3pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted at the conclusion of visitation on Saturday at 3:00pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery between her two husbands. Memorials in Anna May's name may be made to any children's charity of choice.
