ZEPHYRHILLS, FL./CANISTEO: Margaret M. Smith, 91, of Zephyrhills Fl. formerly of Canisteo, passed away Thursday (Jan. 12, 2012) at the Palm Cottages Assisted Living Facility in Rockledge, Fl. Margaret was born April 20, 1920 in Wellsville to William and Dora (Heers) Teller. On April 4, 1942 in Marion, SC she married Dean Smith who predeceased her in September of 1997. She was also predeceased by a son Duane Smith in 1990, two brothers: William and Russell Teller and two sisters: Mildred Cleveland and Fern Bostley. Margaret was a graduate of Wellsville High School and at one time was cook and assistant proprietor at the former Greenwood Hotel in Greenwood. She had lived entirely in the Canisteo area before retiring to Florida in 1983. Survivors include two sons: Roger (Johanna) Smith of Apalachin and Dennis (Leslie) Smith of Watkins Glen, one daughter Diane (Robert) Davison of Almond and daughter-in-law, Etta (Carl) Teribury of Jasper. She is also survived by a sister Dorothy Ennis of Wellsville, 8 grand children and 10 great grand children, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM Monday, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place at immediately following calling hrs. at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in Whitesville Rural Cemetery, Whitesville, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Margaret Smith's name may be made to either, the First Presbyterian Church, 10 South Main St., Canisteo, N.Y. 14823, Southern Tier Hospice 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, N.Y. 14830 or to the Donor's Choice.
