Obituary of Elaine T. Gunn

Jasper, NY | Elaine T. Gunn, 90, of Main St. Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell following a short illness. Elaine was born in Woodhull, NY on Sept. 20, 1923, the daughter of Alan and Florence Williams Talbot. She attended and graduated from Jasper Central School. On Sept. 22, 1945, she and Aulden L. Gunn were married in Jasper. Aulden preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1989. As a young woman, Elaine worked in Buffalo in an aircraft components factory supporting the war efforts of the time. When Aulden returned from the military they established their family farm in North Jasper which they operated together for many years. They were involved in the North Jasper Grange as well as other agricultural organizations. They owned the former Gunn's Sinclair in Jasper which Elaine managed for many years. When her children were younger, she was involved as a 4-H leader. Elaine attended the Community Church of Jasper and the Jasper Senior Citizens group. An avid deer hunter, she hunted until well into her 80's. Besides Aulden, Elaine was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Papenthien on Sept. 4, 2003, her son, Donald Gunn on Jan. 20, 2004, her infant son Ronald Gunn, her granddaughters, Kimberly Gunn and Melissa Gunn, her daughter in law, Elaine Gunn, her brother, George Talbot and her sister, Blodwyn VanSickle. Surviving is her son, Louis Gunn (Shari Pierson) of Hornell, her daughter in law, Dorothea Gunn of Cameron, her grandchildren, Richard (Lucia) Gunn, Angela (Juan) Seazm, Ronald (Lauri) Gunn, Meredith (Jason) Pratt, Marty (Crystal) Gunn, Roger (Pam) Gunn, Corbett (Bobbi) Gunn and Nicole (Terry) Brewer, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Saturday, June 28 from 2-4 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Elaine's funeral services will follow there at 4 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery.
