JASPER: Madolyn L. "Maddie" VanSkiver, 84, of Marsh Hill rd. passed away peacefully at her home Friday (Jan. 13, 2012) following a long illness. Maddie was born November 16, 1927 in Adrian in the town of Canisteo to Lynn and Mary (Atherton) Maxfield. On October 18, 1946 in South Canisteo she married Wyman G. VanSkiver who predeceased her in April of 2008. She was also predeceased by a son Lynn Ray VanSkiver in 1950, an infant sister Thelma Maxfield and a sister Marilyn Cornwall. Maddie was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and valedictorian of the class of 1943. She was employed in food service at the former Bethesda Hospital and was a sales clerk for many years at the former Smith's Furniture Manor in Canisteo from where she retired in 1987. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Jasper, member of the South Canisteo United Methodist Church and Canisteo Kohoco. Survivors include three sons: Douglas VanSkiver of Whitesville, William (Patsy) VanSkiver and Andrew (Brenda) VanSkiver all of Jasper. Two daughters: Janice VanSkiver of North Chili and Janet VanSkiver of Caneadea, 11 grand children, 2 great grand children and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery, Jasper, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Madolyn "Maddie" VanSkiver's name may be made to either, Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd.
