Addison, NY | Josephine A. Mayo, 89, of Steuben St. Addison, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Corning Hospital. She was born in Woodhull, NY on Aug. 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Sterling and Mildred Houghtaling Hadley. Josephine was a 1943 graduate of the former Woodhull High School. On June 29, 1943, she married Richard Mayo. He preceded her in death on Mar. 9, 1989. Josephine had worked in housekeeping at the former Baron Steuben Hotel in Corning as well as being a homemaker. She was a very loving and giving Mother and Grandmother. Besides her husband Richard, she was predeceased by her infant son, Donald Mayo in 1952, her grandsons, Nicholas Mayo and Scott Burdick, son in law, Andrew "Joe" Ribble, a great granddaughter and her brother, Robert Hadley. Surviving is her daughter, Carolyn Joan Ribble of Addison, her sons, Richard Mayo Jr. of Woodhull and Dan B. (Rae) Mayo of Addison, her grandchildren, Tina (Russell) Patterson, Johnny (Laura) Burdick, Mark Burdick (Jennifer Wallace), Bryan Mayo, Sheila (Andy) James, Russell Mayo, Emily (Eric) Rowe, Kristoffer (Sheena) Mayo, David Mayo (Hailey), Carolyn (Larry Guild and Jodi Mayo- Windnagle (Jason Carl), her granddaughter in law, Julie Burdick, 40 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, her sister, Arlene Brewer of Woodhull and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at Jasper Cemetery, Jasper, NY with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith in Action or Meals on Wheels.
