Addison, NY | Martha L. Weale, 87, of Cleveland Drive, Addison, passed away on 9 June 2014 at home. Martha was born in Addison on 7 September 1926 to Peter and Aletha Laffkas. She was a graduate of Addison High School, Bryant Stratton and Mansfield University. On 17 August 1947, she and Dewey Weale were married in Addison. Martha was a lifelong educator starting her teaching career in Campbell. Her subsequent tenure in Corning-Painted Post as an elementary teacher started atPierce School then Smith School. Forever supporting historic preservation, she advocated for the preservation of the Old Village Hall, village-town consolidation, and Addison High School cupola. She was proud of her lifelong commitment to the Church of the Redeemer in which she was baptized, confirmed, married, and now memorialized. She was a Steuben County ombudsman for Office of the Aging. She enjoyed membership in the Blawenburg Band, (NJ) and Corning Community Band. Surviving are husband, Dewey; daughter Alice of Addison ; son Peter of Princeton, NJ; grandchildren Jessica and Zachary. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, 12 July 2014, at Church of the Redeemer in Addison. In lieu of flowers, memorials might be made to Church of Redeemer Endowment Fund.
