Osceola, Pa. | James Elmer Doan Jr., 82, of Tuscarora Road, Osceola, Pa., passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Jim was born in Osceola on April 30, 1932, the son of the late James E. and Elva Lyon Doan. Born and raised in Osceola, he was a 1950 graduate of Elkland High School. Following high school, Jim entered the United States Marie Corps and proudly served his country until 1954. He was sent to Korea and fought during the Korean Conflict. On February 26, 1955 he and the former Jean Sawyer were married in the Osceola Methodist Church. Jean survives. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, he began a forty year career with Corning Glass Works where he was an instrument mechanic and electrician, retiring in 1994. Jim was a true family man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and even his pet cats dearly. A great story teller, he often related tales of his fishing trips and his experiences in the military. Jim would often pass the time by sitting on his front porch in Osceola and watching the world go by. He was very particular with the upkeep of his home, yard and cars. He enjoyed a good meal and liked traveling to casinos for a few games of chance. Besides his wife of nearly 60 years, Jean, he is survived by his children, Rickey Doan of Troupsburg, NY Laurie Boyer of Knoxville, Pa and James T Doan and his wife Missy of Osceola, his grandchildren, Kayla Doan, Michael Doan, Donna VanOrsdale, Curtis Boyer, Cara Boyer, Craig Boyer, Ashley Doan and Brittany Rumsey, 5 great grandchildren, and several sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Doan and Kenneth Doan. Friends may call on Sunday, July 27 from 5-7 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY.
