Addison, NY | Charles E. Carpenter, 88, of Addison, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. Born in Painted Post on June 21, 1926, Charlie was the son of the late Charles Lavern and Fannie (Wright) Carpenter. He left school to enter the military, where he served in the US Army during World War II. Upon his return from the service, he graduated from the Painted Post High School. On Aug. 4, 1951, he and the former Arlene J. Smith were married in the Borden Baptist Church. Arlene survives. Charlie was a machinist and tool & die set up man, having worked for Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post for several years and later retiring from the Trayer Co, in Horseheads. An avid hunter and fisherman, Charlie would take his young family on annual fishing trips in Canada which remained sweet memories for his boys. He and Arlene were long time members of the Tuscarora Baptist Church, where he was a former church deacon. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Arlene Carpenter of Addison, his sons and their wives, Charles and Wilda Carpenter Jr., Mark and Julie Carpenter and Bradley and Emelia Carpenter, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffrey Carpenter and his siblings, Howard Carpenter, Evelyn Pelham, Betty Bonicave, Laverna Hardman and Vivian Jellif. Friends may call on Thursday, Aug. 7 from noon to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 PM with Pastor Rollin Howard officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be made in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorials in Charlie's name may be made to the Tuscarora Baptist Church. Service: Thursday, August 7, 2014 2:00 PM H.P. Smith & Son Inc.
