Addison, NY | James L. "Pete" Burdick, 73, of Manley Road, Addison, passed away at home on Saturday, September 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Osceola, Pa. on October 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Chester L. and Eloise E. Dunn Burdick. Pete was a career military man, serving in the US Navy serving during Vietnam and years after. Upon discharge from the service, he worked as a carpenter. He spent 14 years in Virginia working in construction and then returned home where he worked for ABQ Home Improvement in Elmira, NY. An avid fisherman, Pete enjoyed competing in Bass Masters fishing tournaments while living in Virginia. He enjoyed a good game of backgammon or chess. Pete would spend hours sitting on his front porch at his home on top of the hill taking in all that nature had to give. On July 14, 1962, he and the former Katherine J. Manley were married in Addison. Katherine preceded Pete in death on April 27, 2010. Also predeceasing him was his brother, Jeff "Butch" Burdick. He is survived by his sons, James L. Burdick Jr. and Monte (Teresa Torres), his daughter, Michele Sullivan, all of Addison, his grandchildren, Monte Burdick Jr., Christopher Harrison, David Brown, Alyssa Burdick, Hannah Burdick, Nina Burdick, Lena Burdick, Latasha Kohler, James Orr, Josh Welty, Daniel Welty, Julie Renee Orr and Misty Wright, his great grandchildren, Monte Burdick III, Gregory Burdick, Jaelynn Welty, Maylee Welty and Daxton Welty, his brothers, Jack (Janette) Burdick of Moyock, NC and John (Lynn) Burdick of Chesapeake, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 1 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
