CORNING: Arlene J. Masters, 89, of Riverside Circle, passed away Thursday (Nov. 6, 2014) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira following an extended illness. Arlene was born June 15, 1925 in Hornell to Avery and Bessie (Marlatt) Nichols. On September 11, 1948 in Hornell she married Glenn S. Masters who survives and resides in Corning. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Rachelle Gemmill, 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Arlene was a devoted housewife and mother who loved to crochet and donate her gifts to area hospital gift shops, catholic Charities and area schools. She was a graduate of Hornell High School and lived for 30 years in Hornell before moving to Homestead, FL. for 31 years where she raised her family. She and her husband retired and returned to the Southern Tier in 1990. In addition to her husband of 66 years Glenn S. Masters of Corning, Arlene is survived by two daughters: Diane Carman of Winter Park, FL. and Helen Burke of Homestead, FL. two sons: Paul (Teresa) Masters of Naples, FL. and Larry Masters of Venice, FL. her four wonderful grandchildren: Michele Bobeck, Stephanie Leonhardt, Chad and Jennifer Masters, and great granddaughter: Krystin Eberhard. She is also survived by a sister: Doris Snowden of Arkport and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-4 Pm Sunday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place Monday at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
