Obituary of Allen R. Brownell

HORNELL: Allen R. "Bucky" Brownell, 80, of Scott St. passed away Thursday (Nov. 27, 2014) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell following a brief illness. Allen, better known as "Bucky" was born February 13, 1934 in the town of Rathbone to Earl and Helen (Walters) Brownell. On October 3, 1953, in Hornell he married the former Telena M. Fenti who survives and resides in Hornell. He was predeceased by his parents, a grandson David James Brownell, and two brothers: Merle "Bill" Brownell and Earl "Bud" Brownell, Jr. and two sisters: Pauline Ashbaugh and Delores Stewart. Bucky served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1954-56 during the Korean War. He was a machine attendant at the former Philips Lighting Co. in Bath for 20 years retiring in 1997. He was a member and past Governor of the Hornell Moose Club and was also a member of the Arkport American Legion. In his younger years Bucky enjoyed playing softball in area leagues and was also an avid bowler and loved to watch the Buffalo Bills. In addition to his wife Telena of Hornell, to whom he was married to for 61 years, Bucky is survived by a daughter: Kathleen (Patrick) Norton of Canisteo, three sons: Ronald (Cindy) Brownell of Arkport, David (Colleen) Brownell of Canisteo and Steven C. Brownell of Hornell, 4 wonderful grandchildren: Erin Brownell, Elaina Brownell, Timothy (Anja) Brownell and Shawn (Christy) Norton, 2 great grandsons: Jackson and Austin Norton. Bucky is also survived by two brothers: Walter "Butch" (Wynann) Brownell of Calif. and Stanley Brownell of N.C. one sister: Shirley (Lavern) Sherwood of Jasper and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services with military honors will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 7:00 pm with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fremont. Memorial contributions in Bucky's name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
