Obituary of Wendell L. Thomas

Troupsburg, NY | Wendell L. Thomas, 86, of St. Rte. 36, Troupsburg, NY passed away at home on Sunday, January 25, 2015. Born in Troupsburg on July 24, 1928, Wendell was the son of the late Lawrence and Hazel (Newlands) Thomas. He attended Troupsburg schools and was a graduate of Troupsburg Central School. On May 7, 1954, he and the former Dolores A. Dailey were married in Troupsburg. Dolores preceded Wendell in death on October 30, 2002. As a young man, Wendell operated a dairy farm. Upon the opening of the Ann Page Food Plant in Horseheads, NY, he sold his dairy and began a long career with A&P as a machine operator. When the A&P plant closed, Wendell worked for Elbert Potter & Son in Troupsburg until retirement. He was a member of the former congregation of the East Troupsburg Baptist Church as well as a member of the Woodhull Community Friends senior citizens group. Besides his wife Dolores Thomas, Wendell was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Lionel Thomas and his sisters, Ila Rude, Iva Castner and Audrey Colegrove. Surviving is his son, Kevin Thomas of Troupsburg, his daughters and sons in law, Terri and Joel Wlasniewski of Wellsville, NY and Gayle and Ronald Taft of Wadesboro, NC, 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, his sisters, Shirley Thomas and Vivian Kolcun and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St.; Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 1 PM with Rev. Larry Adee officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery. Service: Thursday, January 29, 2015 1:00 PM H.P. Smith & Son Inc.
