Obituary of Elizabeth J. McCormick

GREENWOOD/HORNELL: Elizabeth J. "Betty" McCormick, 93, formerly of Main St. Greenwood, passed away peacefully Sunday (April 5, 2015) at McAuley Manor following a short illness. She had resided at the Updyke Home in Hornell for five years prior to her illness and moving to McAuley Manor. Betty was born January 14, 1922 in Greenwood to Vincent D. and Mary Ellen McCormick. She was predeceased by a brother Leo McCormick and three sisters: Cecelia Wallace, Virginia Wallace and Isabel Hambruch. Betty was a graduate of Greenwood Central School class of 1937 and graduated from the Rochester Business Institute in Wellsville in 1939. She worked at the Eastern State Farmers Exchange in Buffalo from 1942-45 and at Agway in Buffalo until 1975. She also worked at Agway in Syracuse from 1975 to1986, in the Nutrition Dept. making formulas for animal feeds retiring in 1986 after 44 years. Betty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville and the Altar and Rosary Society where she served as secretary and treasurer. She also served as secretary and treasurer of the St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery Association. Betty was also a member of the Greenwood and Andover Senior Citizens and the Greenwood Historical Society. Betty is survived by a niece Nancy (David) Litz of Lockport, great-niece Laurie (Jeff) Wright of Ontario, and great-great niece and nephews, Ashley (Brandon) Brown, Brandon (Meghan) Wallace, and Simon Wright and many new friends from Arkport United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A mass of Christian burial will take place Thursday at 10:00 am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Churchyard cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to either the Greenwood Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund or to the Greenwood Historical Society.��
